McQueen at Midnight

For the final two days of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit, the Met has decided to do the unprecedented—they are keeping the museum open until midnight on Saturday, August 6, and Sunday, August 7, to allow as many people as possible to see this landmark show before it closes. It's a fitting final tribute to a designer whose imagination was steeped in darkness, with touches of the grotesque and the macabre.

Once again, I feel so museum-bound here in the midwest. Don't get me wrong, there ARE excellent museums, but the fashion exhibits are few and far between. Do you think you'll go one last time?

Very well said: ... the grotesque and the macabre.

I 2nd Terri, fashions exhibits are rarley seen in Vienna, contemporary fasion even less. We have jewellery-exhibitions, I visited one twice, you can never see a fascinating exhibition too often.

Have a nice weekend!

Hi Terri, I just got back from Virginia so I wasn't able to attend the McQueen exhibit one last time. And I have a theory that other museums are watching how the big museums are making tons of money when they exhibit fashion so I think it's only going to grow, and you will soon start to see more fashion and jewelry exhibits around the country.

Hi Pam, you are so right, it was a great exhibit, but not as literally cool as I would've liked because there were SO many people when I went a second time. It was actually fairly warm in the galleries with the wall-to-wall crowds!

Hi Paula, I am curious that Vienna doesn't have more fashion exhibits--jewelry exhibitions are a good start, though. I wonder if they will be influenced by the fact that Paris seems to have a lot of fashion exhibits, which have proven to be so popular, and which get people inside the museum door.

Hi Veshoevius, I love that you know McQueen shows by name. You are amazing!
