Now We Are One

Flat Maddie on the Brooklyn Bridge.

Yesterday was the first anniversary of my blog. I started with a picture of my vintage Chanel bag and Flat Maddie, the adorable cutout my little niece sent me from Arizona, asking me to take her on an adventure before putting her in an envelope and sending her on for more fun across the country. Flat Maddie, my son and I took a stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan, with picture stops on the way. Noticing what we were up to, random New Yorkers, in that wonderful way they can surprise you with, shouted at us, “Hey, it’s Flat Stanley! Hi Flat Stanley!” Flat Stanley is the children’s book by Jeff Brown of a cutout boy who travels via envelope all over the world for different adventures. On the way over the bridge I couldn’t help noticing several Chanel bags on the women and it seemed natural to bring the two together in my first post, Flat Maddie and Chanel. My regular life and my fashion life.

Flat Maddie against one of the gorgeous tile mosaics at the Delancey Street station in Manhattan.

My vintage Chanel bag, which I just love.

I have learned so much about blogging, photography and writing in the past year. I have also learned invaluable lessons in generosity and reciprocity from Nerida at Art for Interiors, Sarah at Cloud of Secrets, Veshoevius at The Taxonomy of My Wardrobe, Vahni at Grit & Glamour, Bella at the Citizen Rosebud, Terri at RAGS against the MACHINE, Pam at over50feeling40, Paula at Fashion Over Fifty, my dear Sacramento at MIS PAPELICOS, and my wonderful mother, Linda, who gives the best pep talks of anyone I know.

I am so grateful to everyone who has stopped by my blog, made comments, followed or given me any piece of advice that’s helped me become a better blogger and, more important, a better person. Thank you thank you thank you.

Happy Blog Birthday!

Your Chanel is gorgeous. Living in a city where many other women sport their beloved Chanels sounds like heaven. In a place like Paris and NYC, a fashionable woman is never alone in her style.

Three cheers for another great year.

Happy, happy anniversary and thank you for mentioning me...it really touched me that I was included in such a prestigious list of bloggers!! I had to laugh...my kids sent a FLAT STANLY on a world tour when they were in elementary school...maybe FLAT STANLY and FLAT MADDIE could meet and have a love story!!

Happy Blog Birthday - mines coming up too!
Mr V has fond memories of reading Flat Stanley as a kid (I never did so never knew what he was on about) and as a university student played sax in a jazz band called the Flat Stanleys. He was very amused to hear about this post!
I clearly need to get a copy of this book!
Thanks for the mention too.

Happy Blogiversary! We have had a flat Stanley or two travel through our household, but no Chanel purses here! Best of luck on another good year of blogging. It has been wonderful to get to know you!

Happy Bloggerversary, Jill! It's been so good to know you, a mom with taste and style who likes to write -- and well!

I love your vintage Chanel bag, too, and I'm usually not into Chanel. Yours has some edge and attitude, though -- it can be lady, or rock and roll, or both.

Does Flat Maddie want to travel to Wisconsin? Or does she need to stay with family?

Hi Catherine, you would've loved Fashion's Night Out last September. I was at 57th and 5th at Bergdorf's and I have never seen so many Chanel bags in my life. Practically every lady in line to get into the store had one on! I didn't get the memo so I had my YSL Tribute tote with me.

Hi Pam, you've been so nice to me there's no way I couldn't include you on my thank you list! I love your idea of Flat Stanley and Flat Maddie having a love story!

Hi Veshoevius, I LOVE that Mr. V played in a band called The Flat Stanleys! That is so great. I had no idea how many people loved this book until we took Flat Maddie across the bridge.

Hi Terri, thank you for the good wishes. I would love it so much if I got to read on your blog that you'd found a vintage Chanel bag for a steal at a thrift shop. Who wouldn't love a story like that?

Hi Sarah, you are so sweet. If I still had Flat Maddie with me I'd send her straight on to your house but she went to Virginia from here and has already probably made her way back to Arizona.

Hi Steph, thanks for stopping by! I need to do a post featuring my mom, whom I completely credit with giving me a love of fashion and jewelry.
