French Resistance?

I learned of a new book to be published in April that I know I will not be able to resist, Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Inès de la Fressange (with Sophie Gachet).

I’m interested in this book for a couple of reasons. One, because I know Ms. de la Fressange was a muse to Karl Lagerfeld and in the 1980’s was the face of Chanel. Here she is in a 1986 picture featured in Chanel: Collections and Creations by Danièle Bott. I love the sequined suit with the gold trim replicating the chain handle of a Chanel 2.55 bag. So Dynasty!

Also, Francophile that I am, I cannot a resist a book with the words “Parisian Chic” in the title. I will at least pick it up to have a look, even if I don’t buy it (although, I know myself, I’ll probably buy it).

Going through my closet I pulled this look together for the theme of Parisian Chic.

Trench—London Fog
Scarf—Adrienne Vittadini
Sailor shirt—J. Crew
Belt—Calvin Klein
Jeans—Levi’s
Silver ballet flats—Bandolino
Vintage Chanel bag (a baby 2.55)
Nail polish—Revlon, Frankly Scarlet

Of course I can’t go out wearing this today because it’s about 30 degrees outside here in New York, with sidewalks covered in ice. I’ll wait until April, for this look and Inès’s book.

I *love* your outfit-in-waiting! Especially the silver flats with the little bit of a heel -- I like a little added height with my ballet "flats" if I can find it. Will have to look into Bandolino.

The book looks interesting -- I will hope it makes its way into our library system, but I may lose patience and have to buy it at some point if you think it's worthwhile.

Hi Sarah, I will definitely report back on the book. Our library is pretty good about getting titles like these in but there is always a long waiting list for them. About ballet flats, I think the ones J. Crew sells are very pretty but that heel is so thin, I don't think I'd make it three city blocks without feeling jarred by the pavement. I loved these Bandolino flats and bought them in 3 colors, silver, bronze, and black patent, but Bandolino doesn't make them anymore. I had luck through eBay, getting one pair for $19 (whee!). They are called 'Breanna,' btw. I already knew I am an 8 1/2 for Bandolino. Otherwise I would never shoe shop online. I go between 8 1/2 to 9, depending on the shoe.

Hi Sacramento, I forgot what the sun looks like. We had .60 of an inch of ice covering everything yesterday. It is the worst winter I've experienced since moving here in 1996. It seems like it will never end.

Hi Lady Lipstick! You should do a post of all your books so I can see if there are some I have missed and need to check out! I love fashion books too and have really ramped up my collection in the last year. As for outfit photos, I will have to get someone else to take them, I don't have a tripod. It was fun putting this look together. I imagine you are doing this for real people in your new job!

Great Francophile outfit you've put together down to the breton stripes, ballet flats and chanel bag! And wow you have a vintage Chanel bag! I love that Chanel outfit Ines is wearing.

Hi Veshoevius! I bought the bag as a 40th birthday to myself a couple of years ago. I saved up for it and bought it secondhand. It's tiny but in great shape and I love it. It's probably the fanciest thing I own. Everything else is J. Crew and Gap!
