How I Wear My: Casual Party Outfit

Adrienne of The Rich Life (on a budget).

One of the many joys of summer has to be the informal—and sometimes impromptu!—parties that happen in June, July, and August. And because there are no hard and fast rules for summer dressing, Adrienne of The Rich Life (on a budget) and I thought we should devote August’s “How I Wear My” post to the Casual Party Outfit just to see how everyone styles their summertime look for all that fun socializing!

Adrienne, above, of The Rich Life (on a budget), my gorgeous “How I Wear My” co-host, is wearing a long navy blue skirt with a turquoise linen shirt by J. Crew and a pair of amazing statement earrings given to her by Tamera (of Tamera Beardsley) when they met for the first time last month. They are so beautiful and I really like the pairing of those two shades of blue.

Silk Path Diary. Oh, you know I love me a sequin.

Silk Path Diary writes of her outfit:

“I managed to try out something new for me in terms of a casual party look without resorting to a dress, which is usually what I wear. And I wanted to wear more textures which is one of my Closet Resolutions for this year. The sequin skirt is by TFNC (a brand sold through ASOS), tee is by Vince, shoes are Sam Edelman and embroidered fabric bag is vintage.”

SPD basically took all the things I love—sequins, a T-shirt, Hermès, black and white stripes, glam sunglasses, a vintage bag (embroidered!) and put them in one look, so you won’t be surprised when I say J’adore!

And SPD’s amazing accessories pair so well with sequins!

Sheree of It’s Not That Deep.

Sheree of It’s Not That Deep looks so edgy and cool in this combination of pale pink kimono and black leather skirt (don’t even get me started on the silver heels and the hair). Wherever this party is, I want her to take me too!

Ana of Mrs. American Made in a Nanette Lepore dress which I love!

Ana of Mrs. American Made says of her look:

“This is a favorite floral Nanette Lepore dress that I wore recently to a client dinner, but before that we stopped off for a little get-together with friends and folks in from out of town. So it was a double-duty outfit, but good for both.”

I really love that the floral print changes color, it reminds me of ombré coloring, which I never get tired of.

Pam of Over 50 Feeling 40.

Pam of Over 50 Feeling 40 says she has been wearing this look a lot this summer. The tunic is by Eileen Fisher and the tights are from Lane Bryant. She made the necklace from an old necklace, using leather strips to add a seashell she got at the Texas Gulf Coast. DIY love!

Gracey of Fashion For Giants.

Gracey of Fashion For Giants is wearing a thrifted 1970s maxi-dress with T-strap sandals, jewelry, and a Banana Republic white blazer. I am so into white blazers right now so I deeply love this look!

Teresa wears a dress by Ann Taylor. Photo by Denton Taylor.

Teresa and her photographer husband Denton Taylor agree that a casual party outfit should be both elegant and comfortable. I concur! Teresa’s silk dress is from Ann Taylor and her shoes are DSquared slingbacks. Do note the jewelry—they picked up this amazing piece from a vintage jewelry dealer on eBay and loved it for its Egyptian influence. I do too.

A detail of Teresa’s jewelry. Photo by Denton Taylor.

Val of Late Blooming Sparkle.

Val of Late Blooming Sparkle is a gal after my own heart in thrifted white gauzy pants, thifted strappy sandals (love!), a great tunic from World Market, and pearls. Don’t you just want to sit outside with her and have some sweet tea?

Veshoevius of The Taxonomy of My Wardrobe.

Veshoevius of The Taxonomy of My Wardrobe wrote of her look:

“I wore the matching Vivienne Westwood top and skirt for my bestie’s hen party. I finally found occasion to wear them together! I was her bridesmaid so had to organize the party. To enable some of her girlfriends who are mothers to join in the fun we had a more casual afternoon tea instead of a night out on the town which might have been more difficult for them to come to. So it was a nice day dress kind of affair.”

I think Veshoevius wears Vivienne Westwood so very well. And the shoes are the perfect touch!

Aya of Couturgatory.

Aya of Couturgatory wore this delicate and beautiful outfit to a friend’s Tiki party. I love the pale lavender paired with white, it looks so summery and wonderful.

Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo Style Files.

Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo Style Files thinks this dress would be perfect for a garden party and I agree! Don’t you love the bottom hem of the skirt paired with the flowers?

I’m heading out for a glass of prosecco. Who’s with me?

This casual party outfit has been my Go-To this summer when I want to meet a friend for a drink but I would wear this to a barbecue, a kids’ birthday party or a beach bonfire! The linen shirt is by J. Crew (I wore it in last month’s “How I Wear My: Sunglasses”) and was worth every penny for as much as I’ve been wearing it. And I’m so glad I finally tried white jeans again (after a long hiatus). These are from Old Navy and I love them! The necklace is also J. Crew, the one I recently wrote about.

I have been wearing this outfit a lot this summer!

Do you have a Go-To look this time of year or do you have several casual party outfits you like?

Is it just us or have you been noticing a bit of neon everywhere this summer? Day-Glo pink sneakers here, an over-the-top lime necklace there. Doesn’t it seem like a fun challenge to find a way to wear something so bright? If your answer is yes, please join us for “How I Wear My: Neon”. Send Adrienne or me a picture of how you wear your neon by September 3.

Do stop by Adrienne’s to see even more casual party looks.

And thank you to all the fine foxes who participated this month!

Hi, Jill! You look so cool, comfortable, and chic, and yay for an opportunity to weary our delightful necklace!

Oh boy...I have never considered a sequin skirt until today, when I see how incredible yet subtle Silk Path Diary's looks. I would wear that entire look head to toe.

Gosh, all these ladies make me long for more party invitations, or at least excuses to wear party clothes!

Hi Jill! The ladies look gorgeous and I love the theme this month. Thanks to you and Adrienne for hosting the 22nd edition of HIWM. So much fun! Your navy and white look is super chic for summer. Just perfect. You'll be happy to know I actually donned an 'outfit' for this post (as opposed to last month with the sunglasses fun ;).
Happy summer-and yes-I'll grab some bubbly with you!
xx, Heather

Yay, I'm so happy a little detour from your shopping ban to grab this shirt worked so well. You always have the most gorgeous jewellery; I find myself coming back over and over to look at your pieces.

Thank you for hosting! Next time I must put together a post especially timed to link to your event.

Such gorgeous party looks from everyone! Especially loving silk path diary's sequinned skirt. Love your chic look - that necklace is a stunner and is such a versatile piece. As well as giving a day outfit a glamorous lift, I can also imagine it with a ball gown.

Jill, Everyone looks wonderful - so many different, yet all appropriate and beautiful looks. Thank you and Adrienne for hosting, as always.
Glad to see you chose the white pants, love that look myself, but wondering if we will get to see the skirt you made?

I think this was the best HIWm posts yet! I love seeing all the chic outfits and the pretty accessories everyone has.

Your blouse and white pants are so perfect with your new necklace! The linen shirt and white pants combo is just very clean and classic and I love that look!

I am sorry I didn't get it together for this post, but will try for the neon one!
Hope you have a good weekend!

Thank you to everyone who participated and thank you to everyone who left a lovely comment! I hope you will join us for neon in September. I was at Macy's the other day and I saw that they had neon clutches for 60% off. Wow! I guess they think that trend has had its day but I think it will prove to have legs next summer too. XO, Jill
