Saying Yes to the Dress

Sharon Stone looking amazing last October in a peach and black dress. Photo by AKM-GSI.

I normally stay away from dresses, even in summer months, simply because I prefer pants (and I think they are more flattering on me too), and yet the photos I have come across recently of these two ladies, Sharon Stone and Ivanka Trump, have me rethinking my position and wondering if I should say yes to adding at least one dress to my closet!

Sharon looks amazing in this peach dress with black accents that she wore last October in LA. I love the satin shoes as well! She paired her dress with a Magic Alhambra necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels of mother-of-pearl, gray mother-of-pearl, and onyx set in yellow gold (I weep). I hope she owns that necklace and it is not borrowed, it really suits her style and looks fabulous with that haircut.

Love the details on this dress and of course the jewelry! Photo by AKM-GSI.

Ivanka, meanwhile, in a floral print dress that’s probably from her own collection, looks so fresh and lovely in this photo from earlier this month. It’s hard to believe she had her third child in late March!

The two dresses I currently have my eye on are:

Press Blouson Dress.

This Press Blouson dress. I am watching to see if this sells out at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale before I can get it (though it is not on sale at the moment). I like its high-low length, the fact that it is longer and yet not a maxi dress, and it seems like the kind of dress you could wear in fall too if you just pile on the layers. Hey all you Nordstrom shoppers, save me one of these, will ya?

Ivanka Trump Pleated Print Organza Dress.

The Pleated Print Organza dress by Ivanka Trump. Actually, this dress just showed up at my house and I’m giving it an audition. I have to say, I think it stays. It’s on sale, it is really easy to wear, I love the print and colors, and I have every single accessory needed to go with it—jewelry, bag, and shoes.

Let me know what you think of the looks on Sharon and Ivanka, and if you are like me and have a hard time saying yes to a dress!

Ivanka is cute but Sharon Stone.

Wow - she is just genetically gifted. there is something so pleasing about her features plus she can turn her look as she pleases - it doesn't show so much as she isn't trying to be a star perse but she can be elegant - cute - sexy. Plus she just has a look that is genuinely 20 years younger than her biological age. Sharon in basic instinct is still one of the most stylish movies to date and I still love her wardrobe in that movie x

I'm glad you picked that dress---the print if fun yet not crazy!!
I think dresses can be a woman's best friend---easy & flattering!
Can't wait to see you in it!

Both Ivanka & Sharon won the genetic lottery. So, just about anything looks good on them. Sharon's peach dress with the VC&A necklace is beautiful, classic & memorable. Just love.

Although I love dresses - they don't love me. Pants & skirts are more flattering for me. Particularly skirts.

Sleeveless dresses are very in now; a as well as prints . Unfortunately, neither suit me.

The Ivanka dress you are thinking about is lovely & blue is definitely your color.

Sharon Stone is such a beautiful woman! I love dresses and think these are great! I dont like to wear pants in Summer, well in winter neither, I feel like dresses are much easier to wear when its warm!

Sharon Stone does look sensational in that fab dress that I've never seen anything similar too. SS is one of those beauties that can have an off day or month or 2 but when she is in top form, as she is here, she dazzles.

Ivanka looks good in everything but I have never seen her anything that wasn't well chosen and motherhood has only made her more lovely.

Get both those dresses Jill (if budget allows) and we can see GSL's influence has really gotten you into high gear.

I think both Sharon and Ivanka look great! I am not a huge fan of the material of Sharon's dress, too shiny for me. I would also lose the black trim the Van Cleef necklace is just fine on it's own. Her skin looks great! The dress you found by Ivanka is nice! I like that the designer is seen in her clothes. Too many celebrities create a wardrobe for the everyday woman but I feel like they wouldn't be caught in it.

Hi Naomi, ITA re Sharon and especially about the costumes in 'Basic Instinct.' They are still great, even today! xx

Hi Jodie, yes the dress has stayed, I'm waiting to see if the other one goes on sale! xx

Hi Becky, I can totally see you wearing the dress Sharon has on. I know you would give it a vintage spin with fantastic jewelry! xx

Hi Rosie, I totally agree with you re Ivanka and Sharon. They definitely won the genetic lottery! They both look great in dresses too. I prefer pants but it is nice to wear a dress once in awhile. I wish I liked them more, I think they are easier in a way, just put one on and go! xx

Hi Nancy, I know what you mean re dresses in winter, once I get in a dress groove, I think they are easier too, just add tights and boots, right? xx

Hi GSL, agreed re Sharon. I have seen some outfits where I don't know what she was thinking (granted most of them are when she is at the airport so I understand) but when she's on, she's ON! One dress has made its way into the closet, hoping that black one goes on sale. x

Hi Michelle! Ivanka reminds me a bit of the late L'Wren Scott in a way--I see her in a lot of her own clothes, just like L'Wren was very faithful to her own line. Their styles are very different, but I like the entrepreneurial spirit of both women. Sharon's VCA necklace is so great on her, you won't be surprised to learn I want one! xx
