I wanted to see Melania Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention last night because I was curious how she would do, since she has been largely absent on the campaign trail so far, and I also wanted to see what she would wear. I guessed she’d go with white and I was right. She seems to favor solid colors and wears the paler ones often. I really liked the sleeves on the dress she wore and I must not have been the only one who was impressed with them. It took me about one second to find out who her dress was by, Roksanda, a Serbian-born designer, another second to find the “Margot” dress on Net-a-Porter—where it was offered in black as well as off-white—and it was sold out within an hour of Melania’s speech! The designer must be thrilled. It’s interesting to note that Net-a-Porter described the off-white version as a “beautiful option for the modern bride!”

The color Melania wore sold for $2,190 and the black version was $1,365. I would definitely wear this dress in black. It reminds me so much of the beautiful black dresses I saw at the Balenciaga exhibit five years ago.

|...and I am crazy for the back of the dress too.|
I think it would be so exciting if designers would learn how to put sleeves on dresses again, because it feels like they’ve all been too lazy and afraid to do it for years now, so if nothing else, I hope Melania inspired those folks to get busy learning how to fit sleeves, whether they are bell shaped or not! It does appear that she had the sleeves altered a bit from their original look. Hers are shorter and more ruffled. I like them both ways! How about you?

Let me know what you think of the sleeves on this dress, the dress in general, and Melania’s speech, if you saw it. By the way, I am watching both the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention, so this is NOT a political post in any way!
