Kristen Stewart Edges Up a Chanel Pencil Skirt in Cannes

Kristen Stewart meets a wall of cameras at Cannes, May 2016. Photo by Pascal Le Segretain.

The Cannes Film Festival is underway and while checking out pictures of the first photo call I realized that for once I liked something Kristen Stewart wore! She normally looks miserable at these things and I can never tell if it’s because she hates seeing so many cameras focused on her at once, which I can appreciate, or if she despises what her stylist made her wear. She never seems to be wearing anything she really believes in or can somehow make her own. But this is one time I actually believe an outfit on her and she appears to be having a good time as well!

Something believable on Kristen!

I love Kristen in this very ladylike Chanel pencil skirt, which looks to be knit (or maybe a very lightweight tweed? Weigh in if you know), and has a gorgeous embellished trim at the hem and two silver buttons in the kick pleat. J’adore! I also love that she both edged it up and made it more youthful by pairing it with a pocketed and cropped T-shirt (I would like it even more if it turned out to be a $5 number from H&M).

Love the buttons on the back and the hem of the skirt.

I am also crazy for the sky-high stilettos by Christian Louboutin with the black and white print and the gold heel. I know her stylist made her wear those but I love them anyway and Kristen, who, when not working, can usually be found in skinny jeans and Converse sneakers, apparently does have some high heel skills since it seems she can actually walk in these!

Crazy high heels but I love the print. Photo by Pascal Le Segretain.

Love the mixed metals of these necklaces.

I also like all of her jewelry. I know the watch and ring are Chanel, but I’m not sure about the chain link necklaces, one with a padlock (so great on Kristen), though I’m guessing they are Chanel too. I am not a fan of the huge tattoo on her inner right arm, but I do like her hair and makeup, since they also seem like something that is true to her actual style.

Even the makeup is perfect for Kristen.

Great shot of the watch and ring, both by Chanel.

Finally a smile from Kristen at a photo call!

I think her best accessory is just the fact that she appears to be enjoying herself at one of these events. She is young, beautiful, and a big star, so why not relax and have fun with it?!

Let me know what you think of Kristen’s look here.

I haven't seen enough of Cannes to know what the atmosphere is. What time of day? What is everyone else in. Love the skirt with that texture...don't much like the T but if it's beach resort informal then it's ok. I absolutely hate tattoos but realize I'm prehistoric on that and many other things.
I am far more interested in the grown-ups both at premieres and on screen.

I love that pencil skirt look too! I agree Stewart never looks happy and is rarely in such a polished look. The necklaces are nice but I would have liked to have seen more color or a bolder statement piece. Chanel has some fun lion or constellation jewelry that would have fit into this color scheme. But a real improvement for Stewart!

Hiya GSL, I'm gathering that the photo calls are in the early afternoon and then there is a premiere at night. So I think she hit the right note with the skirt and high heels being paired with a T-shirt. And what do you mean grown-up, she's a 26-year-old hugely bankable movie star. How much more grown-up does she have to be? xx

Hi there Dawn Lucy, how lovely to have you here! Kristen looks great right? Thank you for joining us for the pearls round-up, you looked wonderful in your photo! xx

Hi Michelle!!! So are these necklaces from Chanel? I was trying to see what they offer on their website but it was the high-end stuff loaded with diamonds. I wonder if this was a lion pendant on the gold necklace and maybe some double C's on the padlock. Kristen doesn't seem like a jewelry gal but maybe that will change as she gets older. I did love that Chanel watch on her. Wish I had one myself! xx

Women don't ripen to GSL's taste until they're North of 35.

She has a Chanel figure and so Chanel suits her well. It can look punky and sctuslly isn't dowdy at all. She has been laying low but I like how she carries this off and how we don't get bombarded with her images so when you see her you actually take notice xx

Aha GSL, north of 35, got it, now I understand. I love it when a man says things like that, I hope you're flirting. As for Kristen, I think she will be even more beautiful when she is 35 and up! xx

Hi Naomi, I totally agree with you, she does have a Chanel figure! I also agree that Chanel isn't dowdy. I have read more than one older lady write that she finds Chanel to be ageing, which is always a head-scratcher to me. I feel like the way you keep it youthful, no matter the age, is to make sure it is on the tighter side, forget that boxy crap, princess seams all the way, and make them tight! Another way is you break up the suit set and wear the skirt with a T-shirt like Kristen has done here, or wear the jacket with jeans. I like that Kristen goes away for awhile, she never appears to feel the need to be on every red carpet, crying for attention. I can think of a few actresses who could take a page from her book! And some of them are at Cannes right now...xx

Love the jewelry, the skirt, the shoes even the makeup. But the hair looks too bleached out & in need of TLC. Like her better as a brunette.

Kristen is yet another actress who played a young Chanel in Lagerfeld's movie Once ^ forever.

Hi Rosie! I only like the hair since it actually seems like something she would wear in her real life and I love the way it kind of takes down the primness of the skirt a bit. I am definitely with you, I like her better with her natural color, she is such a beautiful young woman exactly as she is, no makeup, no bleached hair. I did not see that Karl movie, but I knew about it, I think I have seen still photos of Kristen in it. xx

I like the hemline and her watch

Hi Sue-Ann, thank you for stopping by! I am with you, that hemline is just beautiful, right? I wish one of the photographers had gotten an even closer shot, I would love to see it in even further detail. I am also crazy about that watch too, it's so simple and beautiful. xx

I actually love this whole look. Cropped topped tee and pencil skirt for the win!! I really like how she did a mixed-metal jewelry situation, too. I would totally wear this!

Hi Becky! I read that Kristen cut the T-shirt herself, that it was her idea, and it was made by Chanel (I shudder to think what they charge for a T-shirt). I could see you wearing this combo and you would look so good in it! xx

It's a nice look. The shoes are a good choice.
