How I Wear My: Rose Quartz or Serenity

Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country.

Now that 2016 is really underway, Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country and I thought February would be a great time to devote a “How I Wear My” to Pantone’s Colors of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.

I noted a couple of interesting things as we put these posts together: First, most of the pictures we got featured Rose Quartz! I wonder if that would change if we did this post a year from now? I’m curious if people will be buying more clothes and accessories in Serenity as 2016 goes on and the color is featured more prominently online and in magazines. What do you think? Another interesting thing to note: Many people paired the colors, either Rose Quartz or Serenity, with gray! Enjoy this post and if any other little details catch your eye, let me know about them in the comments section!

Adrienne, above, of The Rich Life in Wine Country, my lovely “How I Wear My” partner, writes, “I have always loved pastels and am so thrilled two of my favorites—pink and blue—are Pantone’s Colors of the Year! When Kay and Star created necklaces in these two gorgeous shades, I knew I waned to add them to my jewelry wardrobe. This long beaded necklace with a leather tassel and clover pendant in Rose Quartz goes nicely with creamy ivory. I just adore it! I wore my new necklace with a Stella Carakasi sweater, Gap skinny jeans and sand-colored Sam Edelman booties from a few years ago. I wore this outfit last weekend while picnicking with my husband at Landmark Vineyards.”

I think everybody knows by now that I am deep (deep!) in my jewelry phase so I am loving this necklace on Adrienne and may have to add it to my own jewelry wish list! I love that she paired it with ivory and denim. Here is a closer shot of it. I am in love!

Necklace by Kay and Star.

Trina of Tea Time with Trina.

Trina of Tea Time with Trina writes, “This is how I’m wearing the combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity a lot right now. This fun Rose Quartz oversize jacket is perfect for our winter weather and pairs nicely over a light-colored denim tunic.”

I love these mix of colors on Trina, they make her look very ethereal, and I also love this as a photo of her!

Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb.

Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb says, “The blue in the checks of this coat and the boyfriend jeans are a close match for Serenity. Rose Quartz comes in the shape of my fluffy pink sweater and the old-but-trusty pink brogues—I’ve had them so long I’m wondering if they’ll ever go out of style! Neutral brown sunglasses and my taupe leather bag let the pink and blue ‘sing’ a little more. I know some people think this year’s Pantone colors are a bit sickly but I happen to love them. Easiest colours to wear (for me) ever...!”

What a fantastic look on Catherine! As for her brogues, I don’t think those ever go out of style, do you? Make sure to swing by and congratulate Catherine on her amazing recent win as Fashion Blogger of the Year for 2015 on Bloggers’ Lounge. Way to go, Catherine!

Hang of Poum La Mode!

Hang of Poum La Mode! writes, “I am happy the theme of the next HIWM is Rose Quartz and Serenity, my favorite color combo! Especially Rose Quartz! It looks good on my skin tone and sweet at the same time.”

I love the combination of the Rose Quartz top with the floral pants and I am crazy for all of the accessories Hang added, including a hat, aquamarine jewelry, pointy-toe pumps, an Hermès Jigé clutch in a gorgeous shade of blue, and a terrific Bvlgari watch. Love this look on Hang!

Such great accessories on Hang.

Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo.

Our friend Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo says, “I like the juxtaposition of the crinkly silver maxi skirt and the soft cashmere sweater in pink. I was surprised how easy it was to style the pink with most of the clothes in my closet.”

I love this delicate and ultra-feminine look on Suzanne. I also like that she added a beret, a silver cuff, a skinny belt and an old-school needlepoint frame handbag, which is the ultimate in vintage style!

Jordan of Kay and Star.

Jordan is one half of Kay and Star (the other half is her mother!), the team behind lovely handcrafted jewelry collections, and in this photo she is wearing their bracelets in Serenity and Rose Quartz. I love them paired with the bold print of her tunic!

Yvonne of Funky Forty.

Yvonne of Funky Forty says, “This dress is my favorite piece of Rose Quartz/Serenity. I love the calming effect this color seriously seems to have when worn and believe it or not I will simply team it up with white Converse.”

This is such a gorgeous dress on Yvonne and of course I love that she has worn it here with just a pair of tortoiseshell shades!

Claudia of HappyFace313.

Claudia of HappyFace313 writes, “Rose Quartz in winter makes me look paler than I am, so I’ll only wear a blouse and perk it up with some bolder colors. I do like the shade, as you can see from my arm candy. Serenity is not really my piece of cake, but I tried something special for this challenge and used both colors in a two-tone manicure. Not perfect, but it was fun.”

I do believe Claudia’s favorite color is anything in the purple range so I am not surprised she is wearing a shade of it with Rose Quartz. I love that she continued the theme with the pale pink flowers featured in the Murakami for Louis Vuitton purse and I am especially loving her two-toned manicure. What a great idea!

I am crazy for this Rose Quartz manicure with Serenity moons on Claudia!

Alice of Happiness at Mid-Life.

Alice of Happiness at Mid-Life says, “I have been in love with the color Blush/Rose Quartz for some time so it’s nice to use pieces I already have in my closet. Rose Quartz and gray is one of my favorite color combos and this purse has been on heavy rotation since it seems to go with everything.”

I love this ladylike ensemble on Alice and I am in total agreement—Rose Quartz and gray is one of the best color combinations ever!

Nicole of High Latitude Style.

Nicole of High Latitude Style says, “I am not a big fan of this season’s ‘it’ colors Rose Quartz and Serenity. They are too light for my skin and hence very tricky to wear. I try to make them work by adding one of my ‘good’ colors, in this case gray, close to my face.”

I think this is such a great idea of Nicole’s—even if you don’t like a particular color but you want to wear it anyway to be on trend, you wear it somewhere else besides close to your face! I like this look on her, especially the way she edged up such a feminine skirt with a jean jacket.

Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living.

Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living says, “I am excited for this month’s ‘How I Wear My!’ I am wearing a Rose Quartz faux leather jacket that has lots of zippers for a fun edgy look. With it, I am wearing a Serenity blue sweater, dark denim jeans and wedge shoes. I love these colors together!”

What a great jacket on Cheryl, and I like the way she layered Rose Quartz with Serenity. I am also a fan of those super-high wedges!

Linda of A Labour of Life.

Linda of A Labour of Life says, “I have/had a lovely Rose Quartz coat that I wore a ton until my niece borrowed it, and now I realize I really want it back. The coat was a great find at Target in 2013. It’s paired here with a chiffon skirt and some over-the-knee boots. The boots tone down the girlyness of the coat.”

I like this look on Linda so much and her comments made me laugh—I hope she gets that coat back pronto because it needs to make a return to her wardrobe rotation! It looks so good on her paired with black. I love it!

Jen of Fashionably Employed.

Jen of Fashionably Employed writes, “For a gray and gloomy winter day, I opted for these Rose Quartz jeans to add a bit of calm happiness to the wet weather. I love a touch of pastel in the winter to brighten up the drab gray and darkness of the season.”

I like these Rose Quartz pants on Jen! And once again we see the power of Rose Quartz paired with gray—here a great fisherman’s sweater. I like that Jen added a plaid scarf and purple Hunter rain boots.

Rena of Fine, Whatever.

Rena of Fine, Whatever says, “I’m not much of a pastels gal so Pantone’s twin colors of the year for 2016 has had me a bit stumped but not beaten. According to the Pantone website, the pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity brings calm and relaxation. The office is definitely a place where being calm and relaxed are a plus so this is one way I am wearing these colors to work. The floral print in my top has shades of rose and blue which coordinate with the sweater and the coat, making me ready for cooler weather in the days ahead.”

I love this shade of blue with gray on Rena and I think she is onto something. I bet we will be seeing this color pairing of both Rose Quartz and Serenity even more this year!

Cari.

Our new friend Cari paired both colors in this photo and I like the pattern mixing, the pale shoes, the necklace (love!), the frames of her glasses, and how these colors go so well with her hair. I think all you babes with silver tresses out there may have one up on everybody this year with Rose Quartz and Serenity, as Cari’s picture shows!

Ana of Mrs. American Made.

Ana of Mrs. American Made writes, “I am wearing a beautiful American-made dress by Nanette Lepore in one of her gorgeous silk prints, covered in pastels including lavender, blush and serenity. I chose to wear the dress here with a tailored khaki jacket and a natural colored leather belt to make it more casual and to ‘toughen up’ the look just a bit. I think of this as an Easter dress and really only wear it in the Spring, but this year I might break it out earlier given the Pantone suggestions.”

I like this look on Ana and am with her 100% about toughening up colors like Rose Quartz and Serenity, as explained below!

Essie “Ballet Slippers” and Formula X for Sephora “Infatuated.”

I like both Rose Quartz and Serenity but seem to own them more as nail polish than as colors of clothes. With each of those shades, I have to edge them up with black and gray or they feel too sweet and I don’t think sweet is a good look for me at this stage of my life!

I paired a J. Crew Jackie cardigan, my old standby, with an Elie Tahari pencil skirt I bought myself as a present at the end of my time as a seasonal employee at Bloomingdale’s 59th Street a few years ago. I love the mix of gray tweed with panels of lace and leopard and I think this definitely toughens up Rose Quartz! I was able to get the skirt both on sale and with an employee discount so it was a win all the way around. I really like this sweater paired with it, which I had not tried before. I also think Serenity would work with this piece! Here is a detailed shot so you can see the mix of fabrics. I love it!

Detail of the Elie Tahari skirt.

How are you feeling about Rose Quartz and Serenity these days? Are those colors keepers for you or a trend to only dabble in?

Hi Suzanne, wow what a compliment, thank you! I am trying to step away from my denim addiction, which is not easy. I had almost forgotten about this skirt. I am so crazy for that pale blue coat of yours that is in Adrienne's post. I put it on the FB page, you look so beautiful in it. Thank you for joining us! xx

Hi Jodie. I hope you will be joining us yourself next month but I am glad you sent in a photo! It is interesting that so many ladies what to make the colors tougher, I felt the same thing when I saw Patone's color palette--too sweet, must make edgier! I am definitely on the hunt for something in Serenity, to wear with black of course, ha ha! xx

The posts came out so well, didn't they, and I think yours is especially glamorous. I will not be surprised if that Kay and Star necklace you are wearing is now sold out! It is just lovely. I hope they are making more! Cheers to you my dear, for all your hard work and for putting out the call for photos! xx

What a great outfit on you!

Though I don't see it yet, I left a comment that, in retrospect, sounded a bit like an acceptance speech from a first time Academy Award winner. That's almost how thrilled I was to be included in the cast of wonderfully outfitted women you feature each month on "How I Wear My".

In case my first attempt has vanished into the cloud, here is another, shorter, heart-felt "Thank You!".

Hi Cari! Please forgive the trouble with commenting. I switched my comments formatting a couple of days ago to make it more open so I don't know what happened with your first comment. Please forgive me (and Blogger)! I am so glad you joined us. I love that you wore both colors and I was especially crazy for your necklace! I hope you will think about joining us again! xx

Jill thank you so much for featuring my outfit - I am soooo in love with RQ & S so it was perfect timing for me! I think the colours are so perfect for jewellery even if you're not a pastels fan (as you and Adrienne demonstrated so beautifully here)!

Thanks for a wonderful series as always, all the ladies look so fabulous in their pinks and blues :)

Thanks to you two for another wonderful and challenging wardrobe post! Interesting to see how many of us are not really into these colors. I wonder how we will all feel in several months - it would be interesting to do a poll later, after we start to see Serenity and Rose Quartz incorporated into Spring and Summer line and home goods, etc, right?
Everyone did a great job here, though, and I love your idea of the nail colors. I had considered that myself, but manages to find the pieces I had in my closet. : ) Ana

Hi Ana, I am glad you joined us again. I think you are right, I bet these colors grow in popularity over the course of 2016! I know I am keeping my eyes out for something in Serenity blue, probably a cardigan. I loved how Rena wore hers with gray and I'd like to pair these colors myself! xx

Hi Greetje! I am with you, I do not want to wear either color too close to my face, although it would be okay to be nearby as long as there is either black or gray in the mix! I hope you join us once again in the coming months. xx
