This is such a terrific calendar!
If you are like me and not really into the often overwhelming crowds that can collect at the shops during the holiday season, you are probably doing a lot of your gift buying online. In that spirit, I thought it would be fun to share a buying guide about some of my favorite things, all of them suitable for gift giving this holiday season and all of them available online!
These items are presented in no particular order and most are rather budget friendly. I hope you enjoy this roundup!
I love my Jewelry Page-A-Day Calendar, above, by Workman Publishing. I’ve had one for the past two years. It has drool-worthy pictures in a gallery format and plenty of the pieces are historical, antique or vintage and often by jewelers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Tiffany & Co. It also shows modern jewelry and is a great way to learn about current trends. Amazon always carries this but you can sometimes find it for half off at Barnes & Noble in January! Workman Publishing also makes this calendar format for both Shoes and Handbags. Any of these calendars make great gifts!
Perfect for the fashion illustration or historical fashion fans in your life!
You know I love a gorgeous book and two that were really wonderful additions to my collection this year are The Fine Art of Fashion Illustration by Julian Robinson, with Gracie Calvey, and Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry. The Liz book is out of print but there are still copies available on eBay and Amazon. Make sure you read the fine print by the seller about the condition of the book before you bid or buy.
This book is still a great gift to give Liz Taylor or jewelry fans!
A fun DVD to give or to get!
I have a bit of a Liz Taylor jewelry obsession going on at the moment so I can’t help but add this terrific and fun DVD Elizabeth Taylor: Auction of a Lifetime to the list. Tell your gift recipient (even if it is YOU) to break out the bubbly and get ready to revel in Liz’s jewelry closet when you watch this documentary, as well as the over-the-top auction to sell that stunning collection of hers. This DVD is available both at Amazon and from sellers on eBay.
A tassel necklace by Jacket Society.
You must swing by Jacket Society to see the collection of very giftable jewelry (and scarves!) that Nora offers. I have worn my tassel necklace by Nora so much this fall, which I originally purchased to feature in “How I Wear My: Tassel.” It is now sold out but there is always something new to love in Nora’s shop and because of the fact that she never does repeats, every piece, whether a necklace, a scarf, or a jacket or wrap, feels collectible.
A great leather bracelet in Fire Engine Red from Shop the Rich Life...
I love this unusual leather bracelet given to me by my friend Adrienne of The Rich Life (on a budget). She sells them in her online boutique Shop the Rich Life. This bracelet, in Fire Engine Red, doubles as a choker! It also comes in Make Me Blush and Rich Brown and, even better, is currently on sale!

Anne Touraine Paris silk chiffon stole with Julie Vos rings and necklace.
A couple of years ago I got to meet the lovely and talented Anne Touraine of Anne Touraine Paris when she came to Manhattan for an accessories show and she was so kind as to give me one of her beautiful silk chiffon stoles, which has become one of my favorite scarves of all time! This oblong scarf is perfect year-round—I love it on a summer day, but I also love it as a silky pop of color in winter. Anne offers them in several colors and I think polka dots never go out of style.

Rich Girl hand cream by Deborah Lippmann.
I love a luxurious hand cream and this one, Rich Girl by Deborah Lippmann, which I first discovered when I worked at Bloomingdale’s, is still one of my favorites! It’s pretty thick and I love the scent. It has an SPF of 25, but I use it at night. You may be able to try this before you buy it if you ask an SA at Bloomie’s or Sephora for a sample. It’s not cheap (around $28), but sometimes it’s nice to give (or get!) a hand cream that’s several steps up from what you can buy at the drugstore.
I love my Manhattan Diary by Per Annum.
The Manhattan Pocket Diary by Per Annum is the only reason I am able to get anything done on any particular day. This purse-sized lifesaver keeps me organized with all my daily To-Do lists and I love that it comes in so many different colors. It also has MTA, Metro-North, Long Island Railroad and New Jersey Transit maps, names, addresses and phone numbers of NYC department stores, landmarks, hotels, and restaurants. It also has many other things like a Vintage Wine Table and Stock Market averages for stock markets around the world. Per Annum offers them for other cities too—Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco, as well as a 15-City version, which is great for business travelers. I can’t recommend this product enough. I have had one for well over ten years and I have already ordered one in Turquoise for 2016!
Let me know what your favorite items are to give as gifts during the holidays!
Disclosure: The Fine Art of Fashion Illustration, Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry, the Fire Engine Red leather bracelet, and the Anne Touraine Paris silk chiffon stole were given to me as gifts, though the opinions written here are my own. Everything else I purchased myself.
