Cate Blanchett Makes the Case for Lace

There were some gowns I loved at the Golden Globes on Sunday, including Amy Adams’ two-toned red Valentino gown (which at first looked like Gucci to me), and Sandra Bullock’s unusual pink, black, and blue Prabal Gurung, but for me the best dressed was Cate Blanchett. I’m normally not a fan of black gowns on the red carpet but I never get tired of black lace and this Armani gown on Cate was perfection, from the cap sleeves to the mermaid-like skirt, and the way the lace framed her neck and face and highlighted her gorgeous skin. The diamonds are by Chopard and after all my recent musing on diamonds, I have to say, Cate, who is the same age as me, is in her prime diamond-wearing years too and it certainly showed!

I love the delicate lace and the Chopard diamonds! Photo by Getty.

There is a fun story over at The Coveteur showing the people getting Cate ready for her big night and featuring insights from the man who did her amazing faux-bob, Robert Vetica. Over at Into the Gloss is a rundown of the products that makeup artist Jeanine Lobell used on Cate to give her that luminous glow. Not very many, it turns out, and I loved this light-handed makeup approach on her.

What gowns at this year’s Golden Globes caught your eye?

They didn't show many pictures of the dress from behind enough! I think she was the fashion winner and then lupita was a close second!

Lupita looked so amazing in that Ralph Laurent dress, you're right. It was a great choice for her. There were quite a few dresses I liked this time around, including the ones on Helen Mirren, Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock, and Jessica Chastain. My jury is still out on Jennifer Lawrence's Dior gown. From some angles I don't think it was that flattering on her but I did love the white and black combination. XO, Jill

I didn't watch the awards show, but I am fan of Cate Blanchett's style choices. What a chic woman, and this dress underscores her classic, elegant figure and demeanor. Her look is timeless and enviable.

First and foremost Cate HAD TO WIN the award because her acting in Blue Jasmine was amazing!!!! The character she played in the movie would have worn this exact dress if she had gone to a red carpet event. Rich, rich, rich, and looks like she was definitely BORN WITH IT!!!!

Helen Mirren's Jenny Packham gown was my favorite, loved the green shade and the emeralds, too. Also Jessica Chastain's gown. Cate's black lace was beautiful, as well.

Too bad we couldn't see the award show here in Vienna. - Cate Blanchett looked amazingly beautiful. I saw an interview with her and did not like her hair in a close up. From far away it's a totally diffeerent impression and looks very nice.
But the dress is to die for, if one has the right body for it, haha :-) xo

Only one word for Cate. Sublime. That's all. She looks better every year!

So interesting to read what everyone thought not only of Cate's dress, but some of the other best-dressed ladies at the Golden Globes, like Helen Mirren! I was not so into that pink Givenchy ensemble Cate wore the other night to the SAG Awards (have you seen it?), so now I am very curious to see what she will wear to the Oscars! XO, Jill
