How I Wear My: Date Night Look

Since February is the month of Valentine’s Day (as well as the Oscars, hurray!), Adrienne of The Rich Life (on a budget) and I thought it was a good time to devote a “How I Wear My” post to a Date Night Look.

With the cost of babysitting so high here in Brooklyn—I ask you, where are all the enterprising teenagers?—I feel like when I do go out it’s not with my husband, it’s on a date with my mom friends. We usually opt for local bars or restaurants, which makes for interesting people watching. Is it just me or are there a ton more tattoos on people anymore? Also, what is up with the full-beard/watchman’s cap/lumberjack look these 20-something guys in Brooklyn are into? Is it a New York thing? Do they look like that where you live? I just can’t get into it.

But I digress.

While my mom friends and I are not trying to meet anyone—or are we?—I still want to look nice and this is an outfit I’d wear for drinks with my favorite mom friends. Make mine champagne!

Thakoon for Target coat, Brooks Brothers shirt, J. Crew necklace. Red nails by Tom Ford!

My favorite thing when arranging this post was seeing how everybody’s Date Night looks were so different from one another but every single lady found a way to infuse some glamour into their outfits, whether their dates were casual or dressy occasions! Check them out!

Adrienne of The Rich Life (on a budget) looking so elegant and chic in all black.

Sheree from It’s Not That Deep. I love this look and she is offering the skirt for sale!

Kelly of Grunge Queen. Oh do I adore the glamour of this ensemble. Kelly got this dress on sale!

Lynne of Practical Paralegalism snagged this dress at Goodwill for $5. Wow!

Amy of Denim & Dots. Isn’t this perfect for Valentine’s Day?

Marina of Antares: Alpha Scorpii. The dress is lovely and notice the owl pendant!

Anne of Dress. I love her Mary Janes and her miniature toucan Bamboo!

Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb. Her coat and smile are divine.

Pam of Over50Feeling40. I love her shimmery midnight blue jacket and ballet flats.

Heather of Vintage French Chic. Check out that amazing velvet handbag!

Barbara wears a thrifted wool coat by Seventy. I must check out that brand.

Bella of The Citizen Rosebud. I love me a sequin so you know I am a big fan of this sweater.

Jeannie of Gracefully 50 looking so glam-casual on the tracks. And is that a Louis Vuitton backpack I spy?

Anne from Playing with Scarves. Yowza, this is one smokin’ hot look featuring one saucily-tied scarf!

Thank you to all the fine foxes who participated this month and do stop by Adrienne’s to see what other Date Night looks she’s put together!

Also, click here to see the amazing Sheree of It’s Not That Deep featured in The New York Times Fashion & Style section! Adrienne introduced me to her blog last month and I am always inspired by her style so I’m super excited for her! Right on, Sheree!

It’s probably not news to you that Pantone has declared Emerald the color for 2013 (although I have to ask, who made them the Kingmaker of Color?) and while we like that shade we are checking our closets for any tone of that quintessential spring color. Please join us next month for “How I Wear My: Green.” Send a picture to Adrienne or me by March 5, 2013. From Olive to Apple, from Peridot to Kelly, all shades of green are welcome!

Ooh, thanks, Jill, for introducing me to these lovely ladies and their unique styles. Thanks for featuring me too - quelle thrill! - although I have to say that this outfit was more of a "Running around with hubby doing errands" job than a date-night ensemble! But I am sure those date nights will come and be treasured soon enough! xoxo

P.S.: I love your coat, reminds me a wee bit of the vintage brocade one I just bought off Etsy. :)

Love that coat, so chic!! I haven't been to a target in years! Though, there aren't any over here in the UK!! It looks brilliant on you. I don't know what is going on with the lumberjack looking guys, but it doesn't really look nice, haha! Also, I'd love someone to veto the saggy jeans look too, I don't wish to see anyone's boxers, haha! Anyways....I found you from Sacramento's blog, so I thought to say hello :) Hope you are well xx

So many beautiful ladies ready to make their hubby fall again. It's fun to see all these photos.
Your coat is adorable Jill. You could easily pretend it's a vintage couture coat. It's all about accessorizing and you know so well how to do it!
And of course thanks a lot for hosting your crazy scarf friend addict ...

Another great HIWM post! I love all the different looks.
Love your floral coat! I bet you can wear that most of the year - except summer - and with so many different outfits.

Yes, we have the bearded hipster guys around here too. And lots of tattooing as well.

So proud of and happy for Sheree and the mark she is making in the fashion world! I adore her style...actually I love every look featured from the casual to the dressy to the sexy (I'm talking to you, Anne Touraine:))

Looking forward to next month's HIWM Green!!

Big hugs to you Jill, my friend.

I love Anne's saucily ties ankle scarf- rawr! to the Scarf Queen!

You look fab- and yeah that old-timey lumberjack look originates from Brooklyn but has infected the youth world over, esp here in Seattle- Band of Horses, the music group I think was a forerunner of this throwback to the century before last style.

I love Adrienne's chic LBD look, and Catharine's fur. Ok, I suspect Not Dressed as Lamb could wow me wearing a paper bag, she is our +40 super model!

Thanks for including me up there with so many wonderful women and great date looks. You da best!

Thanks for hosting such a fun "event!" Loved meeting the others. Your Thakoon coat is so elegant, you look like you walked out of the movie Indochine!

Love your coat, Jill. This was a fun idea for a post...everyone looks great and ready to have a memorable, fun time.

FYI, just read a blurb in "The Week" that the number of women getting tattoos has surpassed the number of men. Lovely.

Love the printed coat with the necklace--and I hear you on the babysitting thing! When I was in HS I took every job I could get my hands on.

Beautiful, beautiful date night looks. I definitely see gorgeous dresses, handbags, shoes, and scarves I'd love to try. I'm inspired to try some new stylings :) Thanks for including me and my $5 dress.

Thanks to Bella, I found you! WooHoo!

I will join The Green Group next month, for sure! THANK YOU for allowing more shades than "OMG Emerald", which I DO NOT LIKE. Pantone has become the Color Dictator and fashion bloggers line right up and drink the Koolaid. It's all a marketing ploy.

Now, as far as your first comments about the hipster youth and their baffling trends... They're young, we're OLD. That's why we don't get it. Due to the internet (and bands) the tatted, hirsute, nerdy glasses, skinny jeans, beanied dude is EVERYWHERE. Ugh. The facial hair -- I cannot love it.

Your blog, however, I DO love! So glad to have found you!
