Are you finding it a challenge to stay cool in the height of the heat? It seems like a lot of stylish ladies we see around town make summertime dressing a cinch by reaching for either a sundress, romper or jumpsuit as their go-to essential and building their outfit from there, so Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country and I wanted to devote August’s “How I Wear My” to these three easy pieces!
What a fun post to put together. It was interesting to see that rompers and jumpsuits appear to be either non-existent or in short supply in your closets. I can relate! I also loved all the floral and print looks featured in the photos you sent in. Enjoy!
Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country.
Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country, my lovely “How I Wear My” partner, writes, “I have been living in dresses this summer. I just can’t imagine wearing my jeans this time of year with the heat and I’ll only wear shorts around the house. I was done buying summer clothes a few weeks ago, then I saw this beautiful sundress at Gap and had to have it! I love the red and pink colors, the ruffles along the bottom and it has pockets!”
Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb.
Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb says, “I styled this lovely orangey-red floral jumpsuit for a photo shoot I did with fashion brand JD Williams when I was asked to be a guest editor for their magazine - this was the shot they used on my editor’s letter page. It goes so beautifully with the khaki shirt which I left open like a jacket, and I love the cropped length of the wide leg trousers.”
[Editor’s Note: What a beautiful shot of Catherine!]
Ana of Mrs. American Made.
Ana of Mrs. American Made writes, “I went through my closet and found this the only remaining romper or jumpsuit after my most recent closet purge. I do have some sundresses left but honestly I haven’t been wearing dresses too much lately. So I chose this silk jersey boho print romper made in USA by Nanette Lepore which I have had for several years, but a couple of years ago I added the lace to the hem to make the shorts a bit longer and now I love this piece. It’s easy to wear - just throw on shoes and I’m done. Here I am wearing some espadrille wedges for a bit of height!”
[Editor’s Note: I love that Ana added the lace hem to make the romper work for her better, particularly this beautiful wide lace. I also love these colors on her!]
My good friend Rosie, looking as elegant as ever, is wearing a dress and sweater by J. Crew, a Kate Spade necklace, beige suede shoes, and carrying a Coach handbag. She writes, “Navy is my black. I like to include a pop of color with Navy. Usually, it’s something red, like the Coach Handbag. Recently I have been using a bright yellow as the color pop.”
Greetje of No Fear of Fashion.
Greetje of No Fear of Fashion says, “Would I wear this dress to the beach? As the word sundress implies? No, I won’t. But... I only put this dress on when it is very hot as it is very lightweight. Without a lot of sun I would be very cold wearing it. Which makes it a sundress in my universe.”
Teresa. Photo by Denton Taylor.
Photographer Denton Taylor says of his wife Teresa, “The dress she is wearing is by the Colombian designer Beatriz Camacho. She bought it on a trip to Colombia.”
[Editor’s Note: What a lovely photo of Teresa!]
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style.
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style writes, “I am a huge sucker for white, because then I feel like I can add in any other colors to make it different. I even tried adding in a brooch at the waist for this look!”
[Editor’s Note: I always love a brooch at the waist, so I am a big fan of this look on Jodie!]
Dee (in the middle!).
Dee says, “I wore this sundress to a bridal shower for my close family friend Savannah, who married Cole on July 9th. At this event, it was by the ocean so I added a white jacket.”
[Editor’s Note: What a gorgeous trellis for Dee and the happy couple to stand under. Congratulations to Savannah and Cole!]
Claudia of HappyFace 313.
Claudia of HappyFace 313 says, “When I bought this dress it was baby blue. I liked the style and the fabric, but the color didn;t suit me at all. Since it was available in blue only, I dyed it in this shade of berry. It has become my favorite summer dress, as I can combine it with almost everything. Here I’m wearing it with orange and liking it a lot—it’s so summery and happy.”
Trina of Tea Time with Trina.
Trina of Tea Time with Trina says, “This sundress reminds me of a big gunny sack and yet I love how you can dress it up by adding a fun statement necklace and or earrings. I also love any dress that has pockets and is super breathable in our desert summer heat.”
Our friend Sandy says, “I recently wore this jumpsuit out and about to the city with my family. It is super comfortable and perfect for summer! I wore my favorite striped sneakers with yellow laces to add a pop of color!”
Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun.
Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun says, “I wore this pretty maxi sundress to the Pala blogger event, where I was so happy to finally meet Adrienne, in real life! And yes, she really is as gorgeous and sweet in person!”
Nicole of High Latitude Style.
Nicole of High Latitude Style says, “I love the colors of this sundress. They remind me of the Caribbean.”
Nina of Sharing A Journey.
Nina of Sharing A Journey writes, “I totally love sundresses and am a dress girl at heart. This was a button-up dress being shown with cutoffs which, when I tried it, did not work at all, so I went with classic styling. The dress is from Shein and the hat is from my closet.”
Charlotte of Jodie’s Touch of Style.
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style says of her mother, Charlotte, “She is wearing a sundress for one of our family outings! I love that my mom still loves wearing dresses when we go out, and enjoys being part of the blog! I’ve certainly introduced her to many new styles, but she always feels comfortable in a light and breezy sundress!”
Kim of @kandidlykim.
Kim of @kandidlykim says, “I am staying cool this summer with this cute sundress I got at H&M for just $10. I love the pattern and added some turquoise jewelry.”
Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge.
Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge writes, “Since it doesn’t stay warm for very long in northern New York, most of my ‘sundresses’ have long sleeves. I adore the flowiness of this tiered floral maxi with its bell sleeves. It makes me feel feminine and free! The lightweight fabric is perfect for a mild and sunny day! And the lace-up booties were a perfect match.”
Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust.
Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust writes, “I love pieces that can transcend seasons and work all year round depending upon how you style them. Slip dresses are one of those pieces. This black slip dress is perfect layered over or under sweaters and tops when the weather is cooler, but also works perfectly as a sundress during the summer months.”
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style.
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style says, “Although the dress is black, it is my favorite summer dress because of the flowers and the combination of pink and green.”
Michelle of RetroChic Mama.
Michelle of RetroChic Mama writes, “This is a black long-sleeved Topshop playsuit that I actually wear in Winter too! Super versatile especially for a playsuit, which generally gets a bad wrap for being a pain in the neck when you need to go to the loo.”
Nora of Jacket Society.
Nora of Jacket Society writes, “I am wearing our brand new dress Floral Print Off the Shoulder Dress with our Gold and Black Suede Chain Knot Necklace with Tassels, Black Franco Sarto espadrilles and Gucci bag.”
I know it isn’t exactly a sundress, but I bought this tie-waist sleeveless shirt dress from Old Navy at the beginning of summer and it has been one of the best buys ever! It is so comfortable and I love pairing it with a big necklace. This particular one, featuring Swarovski crystals in a neon pink setting (and which I have worn on the blog before), was one given to me by my talented friend Nerida, who lives in Hong Kong.
