Fashion House by Megan Hess

Fashion House by Megan Hess. A fun find at the bookstore!

I was in Barnes & Noble buying a birthday present for my daughter’s friend when I came across this fun little tome called Fashion House: Illustrated Interiors from the Icons of Style by noted fashion illustrator Megan Hess. I try to never impulse buy and almost put the book back on the shelf but what made me decide to get it were the gorgeous illustrations, both of fashion, and just of patterns, and the color pairings! I also liked her list of 10 items every room needs, like the Courageous Lamp or the Resident Pet. This is a great little book, one sure to make you smile. I also think it would make a perfect present for a young adult interested in fashion illustration or even just in the use of color because Ms. Hess’s work is wonderfully awash in every shade of the rainbow!

Love this kooky lamp Megan drew.

The artist herself in a charming self-portrait.

I really like Megan’s use of color and pattern.

Love these shades of blue (and the stripes) with black, white and gold.

Details from “The Fashion Office.”

I like how Megan mixes actual items with pure fantasy.

Another great pairing of colors and patterns!

I like these silvered lavender & pink shades from “The Dior Room.”

Love this picture of Liz!

What an adorable Resident Pet!

Megan Hess has done work for Bergdorf Goodman, Vanity Fair, Chanel, and Tiffany & Co., among many others. There’s a chance you know her work, even if you were unaware of it. I’m such a fan of fashion illustration anyway and this nifty little hardcover reminds me why. Megan Hess is so talented and her work is an instant mood lifter!

You can see even more of her art over at her website Megan Hess.

That is one talent I wish I had. All I can draw is flies.
