Rachel Zoe’s Jewels (and Manicures!)

Rachel’s jewels in a January 2015 picture. Wow! Can anyone ID that bracelet with flowers?

It’s always fun to see what stylist and designer Rachel Zoe is wearing, either at an event, or just when she’s spending time with her husband and kids, but I have to say, with as much as jewelry is on my mind anymore, I am even more interested in seeing her rings and manicures these days.

She paired the jewels shown above with a simple dress. Photo by Getty Images.

I appreciate that Rachel has two standard manicures—either deep red or pale and neutral and she even says as much in her book Living in Style: Inspiration and Advice for Everyday Glamour. “My preferences in polish go in two distinct directions: a clean, pinkish nude or rich, sumptuous Bordeaux.”

You never see her with nail art, you never see her with wild colors on her hands, she keeps those nails short and ladylike and polished, which I love. I think the classic manicures allow her jewelry to take center stage and oh my, does she own some amazing pieces!

From her Cartier watches and bracelets to her Neil Lane cushion-cut diamond and pavé rings to cocktail baubles from her own jewelry collection, Rachel always inspires me to get going through my jewels and pull out the big stuff!

Another red manicure, with a gigantic Cartier watch and equally gigantic Kelly bag.

Lovely and sparkly for evening, this time with bright red nails.

A pale manicure and a ton of jewelry.

I decided the other day to do a pale manicure with two shades, OPI’s Mimosas for Mr. & Mrs. and Essie’s Mademoiselle. They look great layered together, with the Essie sandwiched between two coats of the OPI, and to give the manicure a Rachel spin, I slipped on my Charing Cross ring by Julie Vos in lemon topaz. I know Rachel would say one ring is not enough and to keep piling on the jewelry! I don’t like a lot of jewelry during the day but at night I try to wear a bit of everything—multiple rings, bracelets, earrings, and a necklace. I think Rachel has the big jewelry on all the time, which is part of her signature style.

Do you go all out with the jewelry (and manicures) on a daily basis like Rachel does or are you more of a minimalist?

I love how she layers jewelry. On her, it never seems overdone. I've been wanting to add more rings to my jewelry wardrobe lately and you've inspired me! I'm with Rachel Z on the manicure, either light pink (love Chanel "Ballerina" which is sheer-ish and wears like crazy) or dark burgundy.

Will be sending you necklace pics tomorrow for HIWM!

She's the girl Liberace spent his whole life looking for....

Hi Deja! I have always loved how Rachel layers her jewelry too, and that she constantly preaches to ladies to not be afraid to mix metals. Over the years, I have seen that she is right on that! Re polishes, 'Ballerina' is so lovely, I gave my mother a bottle of it once and I need one for myself. If you are looking for stylish cocktail rings that don't cost too much I can't recommend Julie Vos enough. I have 5 of her rings and I love every one of them! XO, Jill P.S. So glad you are joining us for HIWM!

Hi Linda! I think you oughta go for it with the jewelry anyway. What about bracelets if you're not that into rings? Or necklaces, I see that you have a few! XO, Jill

GSL you bad boy, once again, so harsh! I love Rachel's over-the-top jewelry and I also loved Liberace (still do)! I remember when I was young and my grandmother would take my brother and me to the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas (true story). Oh the grand pianos! Oh the sequins! I can never get enough. XO, Jill

I love RZ! I have her book and am ready to read it again since it has been a few months. I appreciate the shorter lady like manicure and I love both, the rich reds or light colors. I have a very pretty light taupe that is neutral and goes with everything. Peace! Cheryl

Hi Cheryl! Yeah, I need to break RZ's latest book out again, I have only skimmed it. I also feel a binge session of 'The Rachel Zoe Project' coming on, that show always makes me laugh, plus it's fun to see all the clothes. Is that light taupe color you mention one I should check out? Let me know the brand and name if you think I should! XO, Jill

I was obsessed with the RZ Project and so sad when it ended. I had them recorded but finally had to erase. I wish I knew where to get the series. I am a big OPI fan but in the town where I live you can't always get it so last October I bought Revlon in the color's Stormy, Vixen, Foxy. Stormy was this lovely taupe that made me want to eat it! Peace! Cheryl

Hi again Cheryl, okay roger that, I will look for Stormy next time I'm at CVS! Re the RZ Project, I bought gently-used DVDs on eBay so I could see the show since I don't have cable. I have not seen Season 5 since they never released it on DVD (boo), so I think I will buy episodes on Amazon just so I can see how it all ended! XO, Jill

Like Rachel, I prefer to keep my nails neat and tidy, with neutrals or deep reds or black. I had the opportunity to meet her and she is a stunning woman in person.

Hi Glenda! You are so lucky to have met Rachel. When I saw her at an event at Bloomingdale's I was too shy to approach (I was also on the clock, eek! And there was my boss, who spotted me in the crowd. Double eek!). She seems super sweet, she was so excited to see everyone (she was launching her jewelry and clothing line) and was smiling the whole time!

I'm with you, I love a good neutral manicure, or deep red or black, which I think looks so sophisticated and elegant. XO, Jill

Hi Dawn Lucy, I know you have at least one sparkly ring, I saw it on your blog, my dear! Rachel would want you to wear it pronto! With red nails! Do it! XO, Jill

Hi Naomi, I know what you mean, I have my phases too and I am deep (deep!) in my jewelry phase. I think some of those exhibits I saw are why--the Van Cleef & Arpels show, the Barbara Berger show, and the Jewels by JAR exhibit. The JAR show in particular has me thinking of pave diamonds. I'm obsessed!

I think I will put it out to the babes over at tpf to ID the bracelet. I would love to know who makes it. XO, Jill

I wish I could have all her jewelry!!! I actually feel like she's become a bit more conservative----I used to really love her when she had a more bohemian look. I just bought OPI "It's a Girl" because I only do pinks/nudes on my toenails because I hate my feet and don't want to draw attention to them lolzzzz

Jill said...

Hi Becky! Oh I am with you, I want all her jewelry she really owns some amazing pieces. And I like that she OWNS them, they are not borrowed, they belong to her! I'm thinking she may be one of the few people left in the public eye that are pretty upfront about their jewelry collection! It's so Liz Taylor of her and I love her for it. I agree with you, her collection seemed more bohemian in the past and has seemed more conservative these days.

I want to see that OPI color you mention, I'm going to Google a swatch. It sounds like one for me! XO, Jill

Ooh, I just love her bracelet.
