Charlotte Olympia Kitty Flats

Charlotte Olympia Kitty Flats in purple velvet with crystal eyes!

Last fall I saw a drop-dead gorgeous Asian gal with long glossy black hair wearing a black fur gilet, black leather leggings, and gorgeous cobalt blue satin Charlotte Olympia Kitty flats. It was a perfect outfit for one of those crisp but sunny fall days in the city! She was standing outside the midtown Manhattan studio where my son takes ballroom classes and I had some time to kill so I couldn’t resist asking this beautiful girl about her beautiful shoes.

She told me that they were indeed Charlotte Olympia, which I had guessed, and that they were really comfortable. I decided to get kind of personal and said, “Can I ask, did you get them on sale or did you pay full retail?”

She didn’t bat an eye at my forwardness. “Full retail. If you wait until a sale all the good colors are gone and they never have your size.”

I had to laugh at her answer and her honesty. It’s true, if you are gone on something sometimes it does not pay to wait for it to go on sale because if you do, you run the risk of finding the thing you love long departed and you may be forever looking for it on eBay to see if you can find it again. This has happened to me!

I am smitten by the spiderweb detail on the front of the box.

I have found that the girl was right—I have been keeping my eye out for Charlotte Olympia flats on sale (her high heels are just too high for me) but they never have my size, in any style, and the Kitty shoes never make it to the sales. I had given up on owning a pair since I decided I was not going to pay the full retail price. I am saving for other things!

So I could not believe my utter luck in finding this pair of Charlotte Olympia Kitty flats in purple velvet with gold heels and crystal eyes, on steep sale and in my size, at Neiman Marcus online over the summer. What are the odds? Actually, I can tell you. They are quite low. These shoes are from Fall 2013 but I don’t care, purple velvet never goes out of style! They are so well-made and gorgeous. They go with jeans and black pants and I think I will get a lot of use out of them. With my affinity for cats (Is it because I’m a Leo or because I own a cat? Or both?), I can’t help being a fan of Charlotte Olympia’s Kitty line.

I also love the gold heel.

A Polaroid is included to affix to the outside of the box so you know what’s inside!

This cat was made for walking.

Here kitty kitty!

I can also see my cat-obsessed daughter falling hard for these shoes. I won’t be surprised to find her click-clacking around the house in them!

Have you ever scored an item on your fashion wish list on sale? Tell me all about your purchase!

Hi Mom! I know, right? C IS going to be all over them for a few reasons, it makes me laugh to think about it. She hasn't seen them yet but I have a feeling she is going to take them over altogether sooner or later. My girl! XO, Jill

Oh, they're adorable! What fabulous luck to find them on sale too.

Hi Deja, this is a pair of shoes I would definitely wear in Paris! Actually, when I saw your terrific post on the topic I thought of this pair of shoes immediately--they seem perfect for Paris! XO, Jill

While I much prefer heels to flats on women, that purple suede and gold heel does look nice. I would allow it during the day but once the sun goes down the heels need to come back out.

Swoon. I think Garance Dore featured these flats or similar on her Pardon My French series. They're superb.

Oh GSL, you are cracking me up once again. You always do! I am SO with you, actually, at night, if I am going out, I really prefer to wear heels. It reminds me I am out to have fun! XO, Jill

Hi Glenda! Oh, I didn't know Garance had done a post on them. I will have to go look for it, I really like her style and I would love to see how she wears these shoes! XO, Jill

Serious score! These are fabulous. I crushed on them last fall but couldn't justify the price. You've inspired me to scour eBay. Lucky you. They're stunning.

Gorgeous. I would love a pair of those. I am a great fan of cats. I must keep my eyes out for a pair in London.

Hi Gracey! I really didn't think I'd ever find these on sale so you are right, I am now tempted to believe that perseverance in shopping can actually pay off! XO, Jill

Hi Jennifer, I'm with you, every time I see what they retail for I'm thinking, Forget it, it's not happening! Check Fashionphile too, I saw a pair of the cobalt blue ones I mentioned on their site a few weeks ago and they were brand new and gorgeous! XO, Jill

Hi Josephine! The Kitty line has so many options now, different fabrics, different eyes on the cats, I think Charlotte Olympia puts out new versions every season. I like some of the other flats too, I think this brand is so witty, it's like modern-day Elsa Schiaparelli! XO, Jill

Great score, I've always loved those flats! I usually nab stuff during the nordstrom anniversary sales. I just bought a red Chloe Marcie hobo (actually my sister bought it but did not want to keep it, so I paid her for it), a classic burberry black trench, and Chloe grey knee high boots. But outside of this sale, I agree with the woman in your post where desired size and color are usually long gone by the time a normal sale hits. Or stores will exclude certain premier designer brands from a promotional discount code.

Enjoy your new shoes!

Purple velvet flats! The cat adds a sweet bit of whimsy. I agree about not waiting for certain things. I have stalked several pairs of shoes by bookmarking the sites they are on and waiting for them to go on sale.

Great score. I lucked out about 2 years ago on a St.John black boucle jacket. I was up at the Neiman Marcus Woodbury Commons Outlet Store in upstate NY looking for something (don't remember what) & spotted the jacket & then saw a blue or green circle which indicated a mark-down. It was a big mark-down. It was my size, & a great price & I knew I couldn't pass it up because it was not only great looking but I would get a lot of use out of it.

If I set out looking in particular for something great at a mark-down price & in my size, It rarely happens.

Hi Helen, wow you really scored at the sale, I love all those picks! You brought up a good point I forgot about--sometimes stores exclude certain brands. I'm glad Charlotte Olympia is not one of them, but they sure are tough to find in my size in the sales. Glad I snapped these up when I did and I hope to use them in an outfit post soon! XO, Jill

Hi Becky! I honestly never thought I'd find any of the Kitty shoes on sale. I have seen some of the other styles and they are cute but still too pricey when I consider I would be buying something I am not crazy about. XO, Jill

Hi Rosie, oh wow, you did SO well buying that St. John's boucle jacket. I bet it is wonderful! I have the same experience you mentioned--if I set out for a certain something on sale it almost never happens. I got lucky this time so I decided to go for it but I'm right back to Planned Purchases only. Or trying to be...XO, Jill
