MZ Wallace Hamish Stars & Stripes

I am normally not an impulse buyer, in fact I will even overthink the buying of J. Crew T-shirts (Do I really need another one? Can I find it on sale?), but when I got an email from MZ Wallace about this limited edition stars and stripes Hamish pouch, I couldn’t resist. It was on July 3 so I’d just posted “How I Wear My: Red, White and/or Blue,” and of course the 4th of July was on my mind, but that doesn’t entirely explain why I had to have this bag. I think it was also because of its practical size, great design, and perfect price ($25!). I have been using it even more than I expected, to hold my phone, keys, lip-gloss, Tic-Tacs, and a full-size wallet in my gigantic totes like my J. Crew Farmer’s market tote and my Louis Vuitton Neverfull so I don’t have to dig around in those bags like I usually do. I’ve also been using it as a clutch.

Louis Vuitton monogram and American flag stars: Two of my favorite patterns!

My silver Mae wallet is also by MZ Wallace.

I love only having to reach for this clutch to find my essentials.

Because of my military upbringing I typically have an allergic reaction to seeing camouflage. I practically break out in hives. I have never understood why anybody not in the military, especially women, wear camouflage, but I have to say, the packaging MZ Wallace sent the pouch in knocked me out. Because of my childhood, I have a soft spot in my heart for military servicemembers and their families and the camouflage bag with the stars and stripes pouch reminded me of the symbols I was surrounded by in my youth. It was perfect.

MZ Wallace is the NYC-based handbag design duo of Monica Zwirner and Lucy Wallace Eustice. Their bags are chic, functional, and affordable (especially on sale!) and I hope to add one to my closet this fall. If you are in the market for a bag, I highly recommend taking a look at the selection on their website. I don’t see the Hamish pouch offered there, but if you are interested in one, it might be worthwhile to email MZ Wallace and see if they have any left to sell. It’s a great bag for summer (and beyond).

I love having my smaller purse items in a clutch - I feel more organized and able to switch handbags without worrying if I forgot something.

It's an excellent little clutch and I can entirely understand the impulse. I have an item to send you...is your address the same as when I sent the book last year?

Hi Pam, I don't know if I love it more because of the stars and stripes or the great price. Both, I think! XO, Jill

Hi Rebekah, I have been switching bags more than usual because of summer and it really is great to just grab this clutch and move it into the next tote without worrying that I forgot something. It took me awhile to learn this trick! XO, Jill

Hi Terri, can I confess how wonderful it is to lust after something that is so reasonably-priced? Mostly I fall in love with high-end things, which of course are cost prohibitive! And yes, I am at the same address in Brooklyn. XO, Jill
