Have you have noticed the color red is everywhere these days—from clothes to accessories to jewelry? Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country and I wanted to get in on all this Red Hot fun so we decided to devote this month’s “How I Wear My” to everything scarlet and crimson!
The posts we do on color are often the most fun for me to edit (Adrienne too, I bet), and this one was no exception. It is so great to see that so many ladies love to wear red clothes and have the confidence to wear them with such panache! I hope you enjoy reading this post as much as I did putting it together.
Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country.
Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country, my lovely “How I Wear My” partner, writes, “I like red on others but on me I only like it in small amounts. This pinstriped high-low tunic from Stella Carakasi was the perfect thing to wear with my new red and pink silk scarf from Shop Erin Rose, a Sonoma County designer and creative professional. I decided to put my hair up in a somewhat messy French twist then tie the scarf around my head. A great thing to do for a bad hair day. I wore the tunic with my very favorite pants, also from Stella Carakasi, suede ankle-strap pumps, and my black Adora bag.”
Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge.
Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge writes, “After searching endlessly for the perfect red dress, I found this red hot number on the clearance rack at Kohl’s at 90% off. This $11 dress definitely makes me feel like a million bucks!”
[Editor’s Note: Doesn’t Shelbee look so beautiful and luminous in this photo? It is my new favorite picture of her!]
Greetje of No Fear of Fashion.
Greetje of No Fear of Fashion says, “This red dress is by Sportmax, a brand I love. I am wearing it as a jacket here with jeans. It is something which will stay in my closet for many years.”
[Editor’s Note: I love this look on Greetje and I am especially crazy about her shoes!]
Rena of Fine, Whatever.
Rena of Fine, Whatever writes, “I was immediately drawn to the beautiful floral pattern on these palazzo pants and the bold interplay of red and yellow. The red purse highlights the red in the floral but otherwise, I chose to let that pattern stand out by pairing the pants with white and black.”
[Editor’s Note: I am digging these wild floral pants on Rena!]
Dale of Savvy Spice.
Dale of Savvy Spice says, “I wore this look a few Fall seasons ago living in Switzerland and love how this red Guess peacoat can be worn over a dress or casual with a white tee and jeans.”
[Editor’s Note: Does anybody else want to rush out and buy a red peacoat after seeing this gorgeous shot of Dale? I know I do! Also, CONGRATULATIONS to Dale and her husband on the arrival of their new daughter Charlotte, born last month. Hey, I have a Charlotte too! Here’s to all Charlottes everywhere, including one found right in this post!]
Carrie of Libby Simone.
Carrie of Libby Simone is wearing a little red dress from the Libby Simone mobile boutique in the Napa Valley.
Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living.
Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living writes, “I built this outfit around my red plaid pumps. I found these pumps several years ago at a consignment store and have used them over and over. I try to be very careful because I never want them to wear out. I added black jeans, a red sweater and a denim jacket and carried a leopard clutch.”
[Editor’s Note: Love this mix of patterns on Cheryl!]
My good friend Rosie is wearing a red jacket from Chico’s, a black tank from Theory, an Alexis Bittar necklace, and vintage earrings from the 1980s. Wondering about the unique place she is sitting? It is an antique enclosed small carriage seat that was on display at a hotel she was staying at in France, in the Loire Valley. Isn’t it amazing? I think Rosie looks like a modern day Duchess!
Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish.
Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish says, “I love a rich ruby red, a darker red with my skin tone. I am wearing a dress from Zara, and I love the ruffles. I added my Marc Fisher suede pointed wedges and delicate vintage jewelry, and broke up the monochromatic look with my leopard clutch.”
Ana of Mrs. American Made.
Ana of Mrs. American Made says, “This is an American-made belted shawl-collar coat by Janska, perfect for Fall. Here I am wearing it with a print tunic/dress and black ponte pants - all made in the USA, of course. It’s a comfy, casual, snuggly look that still looks pulled together, and it features just one key red piece which seems to be the way I wear my red.”
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style.
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style writes, “I am wearing my red jeans and red lace-up flats. I remember only five years ago having a conversation with one of my younger patients that I was too old to wear red jeans. She pooh-poohed that thought, saying that every woman should have a pair of red jeans. Well, I took her advice, and purchased these the next weekend. And I’ve never looked back!”
Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo.
Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo writes, “The red leather skirt I’ve had for about three years now and is thrifted. The top I’m wearing with it was thrifted at the same store. Nothing is quite so bold as red leather.”
Michele of @seechele_styles.
Michele of @seechele_styles is wearing a thrifted camouflage shirt worn as a jacket, along with a thrifted red dress.
Jenny of Your Vivid Style.
Jenny of Your Vivid Style writes, “I wore this David Meister dress to the Opening Night Gala for the San Francisco Symphony on September 14, 2017. It was a dress I purchased online from Nordstrom a few years ago for another event I attended. I remember the screen saying ‘Last One’ and I quickly clicked ‘buy’ because it was nearly close to the event date and I needed a dress! I’m so happy it’s worked out for three events over the years!”
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style.
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style says, “Red, red, red, and a little odd by wearing a black bracelet!”
Claudia of Happyface313.
Claudia of Happyface313 says, “I like red and the upcoming season is a good time for wearing this color. I don’t like to dress in red from head to toe. But I like to highlight with red. In the evenings my clutch might be red. During daytime and office hours I like pairing red with jeans, a black skirt or black slacks. Another possibility to highlight is using one or more red scarves, which is one of my favorite possibilities.”
Red hot Hermès scarves and Twillys owned by Claudia! What a beautiful collection.
Nicole of High Latitude Style.
Nicole of High Latitude Style says, “Somehow I think of red as a neutral color for me. Thus, I like to pair it with other bold colors like fuchsia, purple and lavender. These many colors may be too much on many women, but they somehow work on me due to my contrast of light skin vs. dark eyes and hair. In other words, there is not much color on my own body that competes with the colors I wear. In this fall outfit, I styled my T-shirt dress from summer as a T-shirt. I like to look at my dresses beyond just being a dress!”
Kim of
Kim of @kandidlykim says, “I love this red maxi dress I found on clearance at Walgreens. I love to wear red.”
Charlotte of Jodie’s Touch of Style.
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style says, of her mother, Charlotte, “She is wearing her red leggings. These leggings are from the olden days with the stirrups on them. She’s held onto them throughout the years, even when I begged her to get rid of them. But she’s a great example of how birthdays can be fabulous!”
Valerie writes, “I must admit to not buying much in red recently (although I’m sure that will change this Autumn/Winter) but I have resurrected a couple of my vintage items from the back of the spare wardrobe this Summer, I think they’re probably from the 80s—an old favourite Monsoon top with very fashionable fluted sleeves, and a pair of Hobbs red shoes, both easy to wear and look equally good with jeans or black trousers.”
Suzanne of Ask Suzanne Bell.
Suzanne of Ask Suzanne Bell writes, “I’m sharing my new Rebecca Minkoff Red Mary Jane Shoes. The color is why I bought these, but the surprise was when I got home and realized that they elevated any look I paired them up with. From a simple black dress to cropped denim, the pop of color made older looks new again!”
Mallory of Vine Living.
Mallory of Vine Living writes, “I love the color red, it’s always been a favorite of mine probably because of my dad and mom. My mom’s favorite color is red and my dad would always say how he loved red nails on my mom, starting my love affair with the concept of red nails. I only paint my toes red to pay homage to my dad. I use red as more of a pop of color in my outfits, with handbags, shoes, tops. It’s the best pop of color!”
Susan of Une femme d’un certain âge.
Susan of Une femme d’un certain âge says, “I find I’m most comfortable wearing red in small doses. I love how this red bag really makes a neutral outfit pop!”
I only have a bit of red in my closet in terms of clothes, like this L’Wren Scott for Banana Republic lip-print cardigan in different shades of red and purple. I have a lot of red accessories, but my favorite has to be my Hermès Jigé clutch in Rouge Vif, which I have shown on the blog many times. It goes with everything year-round and is my favorite shade of red. This bag is over 25 years old and in beautiful condition. I make sure to polish it regularly so it will last even longer!
Tippi came by to see what was happening so I swapped out the clutch for one cool cat! She never looks impressed at what is going on around her, which always makes me laugh.
Tippi and I both hope you are painting the town Red Hot all this fall!
