How I Wear My: Blue

It is no wonder blue is considered the favorite color of women and men around the world—with so many shades to choose from, how can you not find a shade that mesmerizes you? It is with this fondness in mind that Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country and I decided to devote February’s “How I Wear My” to blue.

Our posts focusing on color are always so vibrant and fun and this one is my new favorite. I am forever amazed by the range of colors and styles in the photos we receive. I hope you enjoy this Blue Valentine!

Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country.

Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country, my “How I Wear My” partner, says, “I love blue in just about every shade, but I particularly like powder blue. Chadwicks of Boston sent me this lovely wool coat last fall in a powder blue and I wear it all the time. I especially like to wear it with black as it shows off the pretty blue hue so well. I wore my blue coat with my new Karen Klein dress and a powder blue animal print scarf I bought on Etsy in my early blogging days. I folded the scarf in a triangle and wore it kind of like a bib, tied in back. I like having the light blue near my face as it brightens me up a little on these gray winter days.”

Judith of Style Crone.

Judith of Style Crone says, “This blue gown was designed and created by Denver designer Brooks LTD and worn for a photo shoot which highlighted her mother-of-the-bride pieces. I could have danced all night!”

[Editor’s Note: What a stunning shot of Judith!]

Greetje of No Fear of Fashion.

Greetje of No Fear of Fashion writes, “This sleeveless vest is a risky item for my inverted triangle body, but the flared jeans balance the shoulders (I hope). The vest is rather special, a one-off. The pattern is made by a market salesman who also knitted this vest. It is a detail (chair) of a Van Gogh painting.”

I love the back of Greetje’s sweater!

Glenda of So What To Twenty!

Glenda of So What To Twenty! looks so glam in this Kenzo for H&M blouse and Loft flare jeans.

Nora of Jacket Society.

Nora of Jacket Society says, “I am wearing a Jacket Society Blue Knit Cropped Peplum Jacket, white embroidered top, and blue abstract print scarf with 7 For All mankind wide leg jeans, Ralph Lauren booties, and a Prada bag. The jacket, top and scarf are all available in our shop.”

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style.

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style says, “I’ve always loved light blue in the winter because it reminds me of the twinkling of the snow in the early mornings before it’s been interrupted! I’ve only worn this blue, flower tunic over a white dress, and now I’m anxious to try it over my navy blue, sweater dress!”

Nancy from Jodie’s Touch of Style.

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style writes of her stepmother Nancy, seen here, “This is an outfit she styled for our Winter White series, but adding in the blue footwear and necklace is my recipe for fun and whimsy! And how great that the car in the background matches with its blue color too!”

Ana of Mrs. American Made.

Ana of Mrs. American Made writes, “I love the color blue—any shade—and I usually wear it with black or white or black and white together. This is one of my most subtle blue looks, but I love the way the aqua tones pop in the print. This #madeinUSA Renee C tunic top is a favorite of mine and I often wear it as shown here with black skinny ponte pants and short booties. I am also wearing the handmade tassel necklace that I made with vintage turquoise beads from my grandmother.”

Jacqueline of Petite Silver Vixen.

Jacqueline of Petite Silver Vixen says, “I think navy is a hugely underrated colour. Perhaps it’s seen as a less exciting shade of blue than others? Which is a shame. As a basic, neutral colour, it’s much more flattering than black, especially for those of us with maturer skin and it’s just as versatile in what colours you can pair with it. Here, not only are my navy crop trousers the perfect counterpoint to my teal top but it’s a warm background colour for the pattern and colours of my floral jacket.”

Rena of Fine, Whatever.

Rena of Fine, Whatever says, “There’s much debate as to whether the color teal is blue-green or green-blue but all I know is that it looks great with jeans and my blue suede booties.”

Nicole of High Latitude Style.

Nicole of High Latitude Style writes, “My eternal favorite of wearing blue is combining it with white in a French-summer-in-Provence type of style. This skirt top combination is one of these ‘Je ne sais quoi’ outfits.”

Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living.

Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living writes, “My top is Johnny Was, a brand that I think every woman would love. The embroidery on these tops is just amazing and they come in so many vibrant colors. I am wearing mine with 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans and Chinese Laundry booties. For jewelry I am wearing my yellow (called butterscotch) amber necklace.”

Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge.

Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge writes, “I wear my blue with multicolored stripes. This outfit showcases a navy blue dress with brightly colored stripes, navy tights, navy boots, and a long gray duster cardigan. I love the way the blue pops against the snowy background!”

Colette of Styled Comfort.

Colette of Styled Comfort says, “When I wear blue I like to go bold and bright. I love to pair my Macy’s INC royal blue cold-shoulder T-shirt with a statement piece of jewelry like my blue lapis and sterling silver ring. The cold-shoulder cutouts elevate the look of what would otherwise be a simple T-shirt and the deep blue of the lapis is a beautiful compliment to the shirt.”

Lisa of The Sequinist.

Lisa of The Sequinist says, “I wear a LOT of blue, but never navy. I bought these navy jeans and a navy silk blouse on a sale whim (I used the pussy bow on the blouse as a belt) and find that I wear it a lot. I like how this manages to look like a navy blue jumpsuit, even though they are separates.”

Claudia of HappyFace313.

Claudia of HappyFace313 says, “Apart from jeans I don’t wear a lot of blue. These days I mainly wear my blue scarves as a belt to jazz up jeans and skirts a little bit. Here I’m wearing ‘Le Roy Soleil’ which I purchased over 20 years ago.”

Tamara of Tamara Beardsley.

Tamara of Tamara Beardsley says, “Pairing my blue floral vintage silk shawl ...with a navy maxi dress and turban...was a perfect pick for sunset cocktails in the harbor! My shawl kept me warm...and a turban is always a chic solution for any windy situations!”

Yvonne of Funky Forty.

Yvonne of Funky Forty writes, “In the cooler months of the year I love to layer my navy blues—they are slightly different tones but a perfect way to escape all black in winter.”

Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo.

Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo says, “This is a vintage 1950-60s plaid shift dress that I adore. This dress is all about the gorgeous neckline. Normally I wouldn’t wear a shift dress as it does nothing for my figure, but I made an exception for this sweet vintage piece.”

Rosemary of Distinctly Southern Style.

Rosemary of Distinctly Southern Style says, “The weather is a little nippy with cooler winter temps today here in North Florida. It’s a perfect Saturday for wearing my multicolored blue cape from Coldwater Creek. I have simply layered it with denim jeans and a three-quarter length sleeve royal blue tee top. Casual and comfortable style and I’m off to the basketball game. I am truly enjoying our couple of weeks of winter.”

Trina of Tea Time With Trina.

Trina of Tea Time With Trina writes, “This is how I first relate to blue . . . that being denim! And what’s better than wearing denim on denim, right? Well, maybe adding on some more blue with a royal vest for added warmth and fun. Whenever I wear my denim jacket as a shirt I always button it all up and add a statement necklace. For a fun date night, I add heels, and since the snow had melted I ventured out with my open toes for a day.”

Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust.

Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust writes, “I love all shades of blue—from pastels to vivid sapphire blue and everything in between. Blue works so well with my hair, eyes and skin tone. I think that it’s one of those colors that suits just about everyone. This blue slip dress gets a lot of wear all year long. In the summer it’s so pretty on its own, and in the winter it’s the perfect layering piece like I’ve done here.”

Susan of Une femme d’un certain âge.

Susan of Une femme d’un certain âge says, “I love this bold mix of leopard print and bright cobalt blue. It’s a new favorite!”

A Tuxedo cat goes with everything!

I am a fan of almost all shades of blue but the two I wear most are navy and royal. I love this J. Crew lace T-shirt I picked up during their January sales and I especially love how good it looks with black! Tippi was close by so I scooped her up for a photo. I am surprised she had the patience for it. She looks like she wants to bolt.

Love this casual take on lace by J. Crew.

I added a J. Crew feather brooch to a Carolee necklace to create a new piece of jewelry with a vintage feel.

Carolee necklace, J. Crew feather brooch.

Why should red and pink have all the fun in February? I hope you wear your blue all month long!

Thanks Jill, for your inspiration on that necklace. That is a trick I can use as well.
There are a lot of ladies with blue garments which I love (and Susan's leopard jacket), but I don't think anybody can beat Judith. My goodness, what a woman, what a gown.
P.S. I will link up with you and Adrienne next week. To give more exposure.
