Happy 2016! We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing holiday season and are ready to start the New Year in style! With the temperatures finally remembering that it is winter (or maybe they never forgot it where you live!), gloves will take on a bigger role in daily dressing so Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country and I thought it would be perfect to focus on them for January’s “How I Wear My.” Gloves are such an easy way to add a splash of color and personality to an outfit; it’s easy to see why some people own many pairs!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when we put out the call for photos but this post has turned into a wonder of glamour and fun. I hope you will like it as much as I do!
Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country, above, my lovely “How I Wear My” partner, writes, “Most of the gloves I own—and I don’t own many—are for practical purposes rather than style. Except for these beauties. I bought these gloves in 2010 while my husband and I were visiting Italy to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. I stumbled upon a shop in Venice that only sold gloves—gorgeous, finely made, soft leather gloves. I knew I wanted a pair the second I walked in the shop. Picking out the color was the hard part and took a long time. There were so many colors and color combinations to choose from! I decided black would get the most wear but I wanted something more noticeable than all black so I chose this pair with cognac trim and buttons. I wore my gloves with an all-black outfit and carried my 15-year-old Louis Vuitton Alma bag for a little more cognac color.”
This may be my new favorite photo of Adrienne—she looks so beautiful and elegant! I love this entire outfit—the coat, the all-black, the shoes, the two-tone gloves, and the Alma, don’t get me started on the Alma! It is my absolute favorite shape from Louis Vuitton, so ladylike yet so worldly. What a great ensemble!
Judith of Style Crone.
Judith of Style Crone says, “I have a vintage glove collection which has been acquired, mostly at estate sales, over a period of many years. The long black fabric gloves with round button closures at the wrist are a favorite pair that I wear with pieces that have short sleeves, which allow them to shine. Every year I look forward to ‘glove season’ as an opportunity to adorn my hands and arms and add detail to every ensemble that I create.”
I am so crazy about this outfit and photo of Judith. It belongs in Vogue!
Lee’a of The Dazzling Diva.
Lee’a of The Dazzling Diva says, “Leather gloves are one of my all-time fave accessories. Whether classic elbow-length, more trendy half-cuts, or the standard variety in bright pops of color - they are an excellent way to keep warm while still expressing my personal style!”
I love this outfit on Lee’a so much—the black and white vest, the layers of jewelry (double love!), the fringe bag, and those sexy but cool driving gloves, what an edgy, gorgeous and smokin’ hot ensemble!
Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish.
Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish says, “I am wearing a vintage swing coat and just love the elegance of long gloves. I mixed a vintage coat and brooch with more modern OTK boots and a sweater dress.”
This is such a gorgeous combination on Jess! I love the mix of patterns and textures, the tone-on-tone coloring, and the ladylike elegance of the gloves, bag, and coat. Beautiful!
Ana of Mrs. American Made.
Ana of Mrs. American Made says, “I am wearing soft, snuggly mittens. This was a cold day in the fall but I resisted wearing a heavy coat by adding a wool tweed jacket by Nanette Lepore together with a warm scarf and these #madeinUSA sustainable mittens. Jack & Mary Designs uses reclaimed cashmere and materials from sweaters to give them new life and purpose.”
I really like this mix of glam, low-key and cozy on Ana. She looks so beautiful in this photo!
Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo.
Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo says, “The long black leather gloves and red plaid blazer are perfect when I have the cuffs rolled up. If I ever come across the perfect red leather gloves I’d be tempted to wear them with this outfit.”
I love this outfit on Suzanne—the pattern mixing, the red and blue colorblocking, the gloves, as well as how, on first glance, the red and blue almost look like ombré to me, or degradé. Does anybody else see it?
Maryna of Dragonfly’s Heart.
Maryna of Dragonfly’s Heart, my world-traveling friend who is currently in Sicily (lucky lady), writes, “I’m back on Sicily and, even if it’s not that cold here (at least compared to other places), I still wear gloves quite a lot. Because even though I’m okay with wearing tights and skirts all winter long, if my hands get cold, I’m freezing all over. These double-sided gloves are from Italian brand PittaRosso, that sells horrible shoes and quite decent accessories. I bought them last year and they are still making me happy every rainy cold day.”
I love the mix of patterns Maryna is wearing here with her edgy leather jacket, and I also like that the gloves are double-sided. Now I want a pair! It makes me laugh that she says PittaRosso’s gloves are good but the shoes not so much!
Linda of A Labour of Life.
Linda of A Labour of Life is wearing blue leather gloves with a plaid suit from Target, and a cat sweater peeking through, which I love. I like how the gloves are the quiet part of this fun ensemble, perfect for both holidays and the beginning of the year!
Jacqueline of Petite Silver Vixen.
Jacqueline of Petite Silver Vixen says, “My leopard print gloves and scarf were the perfect choice to accompany my raspberry jacket and teal beret. Not only did they keep me warm on a December day but with the two strong block colors of the raspberry and teal, the leopard print set was a fun and easy way to introduce some pattern to the outfit. Plus, they added a touch of style to my casual outfit of jacket and jeans.”
I like this look on Jacqueline and how the leopard both punched up the outfit and played so well with both raspberry and teal!
Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun.
Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun says, “I’m wearing my mom’s vintage leather gloves with my favorite leopard wool coat.”
What a super glam look on Dawn Lucy from head to toe and I love that the gloves belonged to her mother.
Claudia of Happyface313.
Claudia of Happyface313 writes, “Just as I contemplated on what to wear and which gloves to take the decision was basically made for me. It began to snow. Before I went to bed last night and peeked outside, it looked like there was a layer of powder on everything. Hours later I heard the snow clearance vehicles in our neighborhood. Today we had to run some errands and passed by a playground. Actually I was tempted to try out the slide. But there were other kids and their parents, so I opted for the swing and LOVED it. The gloves are made of purple lambskin and where a gift from my daughter some years ago. They are extremely warm, perfect for these temperatures.”
I really like these tones of purple on Claudia, all the way down to her gloves. I do believe that is an Hermès scarf she is wearing, though I am unsure of the pattern. Spinnakers? Brazil? If any of you H babes out there know, tell me everything!
Rena of Fine, Whatever.
Rena of Fine, Whatever writes, “In the last minutes of packing for a recent trip to Northern Arizona, I figured that taking a couple pairs of gloves along with me would be a smart move because the weather in that region in early November was expected to be brisk. And boy, am I glad that I did because it was breezy and in the low 40s when my husband and I were at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. My hands would have been frozen stiff and I would have been miserable. I had opted to wear this off-white pair that day because I had worn my black gloves the day before and I thought the outfit already had too much black in it. My first thought when I saw the pictures later in the evening was that the off-white gloves looked a bit ridiculous, almost like Mickey Mouse gloves. But perched on the edge of the canyon with my hands in the air, I realized that they added to the exuberance expressed in the pose and it’s my favorite picture of the day.”
I love the story behind the gloves and I’m with Rena—I love the happiness radiating out from her white-gloved hands! What a gorgeous shot!
I love the joy and beauty in this photo!
J. Crew coat, Lord & Taylor gloves, L’Wren Scott sunglasses, found fur collar!
My red leather gloves are from Lord & Taylor and were a Christmas present from my husband several years ago. They are lined in silk and while they are not the warmest gloves ever made, the leather is butter-soft and I love their color, a true red. I of course love pairing them with all black!
I wanted to make them one of the focal points of this outfit so I am wearing them with my trusty J. Crew Lady Day coat that I’ve added a fur collar to. This is not the first time I’ve done this. I used the same collar on top of the same coat in a cream color for “How I Wear My: Coat” back in January 2014.

Ladylike elements of style!
I am thinking of adding a pair of elbow-length leather gloves to my shopping list so if there is a brand you love that I should check out, let me know which one it is.
